PYDC uses e-career platform to empower youth

THE Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) is providing a career platform for youths through its newly upgraded website.

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the website would serve as a channel for companies and employers to advertise employment opportunities free of charge.

“This is one of state government’s initiatives to help youngsters in Penang apply for jobs that will suit them.

“Interested and qualified young people can log onto PYDC’s official website (https://pydc.com.my/) and look for employment opportunities.

“Since it was launched in June, the number of companies listed on the website has increased from 232 to 310 while the number of job applications has also increased from 288 to 420,’’ Soon said during a press conference today.

Soon added that the latest version of the website would allow youth to create personal accounts with biodata that could provide a clear background to employers.

It would also enable employers to recruit young talents without using third parties.

“Employers can also monitor the progress of advertised positions, list of applicants, and can update information on the PYDC website from time to time.

“PYDC will organise a virtual meet up with all the employers who are interested to be part of this initiative,” added Soon.

According to Soon, the job opportunities available on the website are not only conventional jobs but also digital-related jobs such as digital marketers, information technology (IT), e-commerce, web designers and so on.

“Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the way of doing things has changed. Everything has become digital. Since we have entered the new norm, careers pertaining to these fields are very popular now.

“Apart from that, PYDC, under its Youth Career Development Exhibition training programme, will also be organising its digital training programme.

“The trainers from Moden Kol, EVO Marketing, DMC Solutions, Digitalized Forever, KK E-Commerce and Big Domain will be conducting workshops this month and also in September,’’ said Soon.

Soon said the PYDC official website would also act as a one-stop platform to provide information about higher education institutions, courses and scholarships for young people.

“Other parties such as foundations or companies can also advertise scholarships offered on the PYDC website,’’ said Soon.

Meanwhile, PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling said the participants would be charged a RM20 fee for the first workshop and could participate in the next workshops for free.
