Reaching out to underprivileged

A TOTAL of 1,921 underprivileged from Sungai Puyu, Bagan Jermal dan Bagan Dalam in Penang today received aid from the state government as it continues to focus on people’s welfare.

Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, who is also the Finance Minister, said the annual programme started around 10 years ago with the main purpose of easing the burden of senior citizens, single mothers and senior mothers in the state.

“For today’s programme in Sungai Puyu, Bagan Jermal dan Bagan Dalam, each senior citizen here received RM130 while single mothers received RM100 each. It involved 554 senior citizens and 314 single mothers.

“And for senior mothers, who are not working and age below 60 year old, they received RM100 each. There were 1,053 recipients.

“So, on behalf of the state government, we hope this aid can ease the financial burden of the less fortunate,” Lim told reporters after presenting the aid to the recipients at Dewan MPKK Taman Lucky in Butterworth today.

Apart from that, Lim, who is also the Bagan MP, said the Federal Government would try their best to increase the welfare programme while improving the existing aid for the people’s benefit in the country.

At the same time, Lim said he hoped the people would give Pakatan Harapan (PH) government more time to fulfil their promises as stated in the manifesto.

“If we look at Penang today, the success that we achieved is because of the continuous efforts for 10 years in taking care of the people’s welfare and developing the economy.

“So, it takes time to achieve all of this. Thus, I hope the people can understand and give us more time to deliver our promises,” he added.

Also present was state Welfare, Caring Society, and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh, who is also the Sungai Puyu assemblyman.
