Rebranding Penang’s tourism

PENANG is making an effort to chart a new direction to grow its tourism sector.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said it is crucial to rebrand the state’s tourism to remain competitive in the international travel market.

He was attending the unveiling ceremony of the Penang state Exco for Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) logo at E&O Hotel today.

“We hope that with this PETACH logo, it will help to take Penang to greater heights.

”This logo comprises all four portfolios, aimed at charting a clear direction towards realising the Penang Tourism Master Plan.

“We need to unleash the potential of both the island and the mainland,” Chow said on Jan 28.

He also congratulated state Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin for his effort towards growing the state’s tourism, arts, culture and heritage.

Yeoh said the rebranding exercise signified the state’s determination to have an inclusive development.

“The Penang government will provide a balance development for the island and mainland,” Yeoh said.

Also present were Penang Island City Council mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang, Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Malaysia, Penang Office (MOTAC) director Jonathan Freddy P. Bagang and the state assemblymen.
