THREE hawker stalls in Bandar Baru Air Itam, better known as Farlim, were given recognition by the state government for selling food at affordable prices.
The stall owners, Lim Lean Hoe (mee jawa seller), Wei Ming Xing (koay kak seller), and H’ng Siew Kee (noodles seller) were given a certificate of appreciation each for ‘Most Affordable Price Hawkers’.
State Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, who presented the certificates to the hawkers at their respective stalls today, said more hawkers have been identified for the recognition.
“This is our (state government) gesture of complimenting the hawkers for maintaining the low prices for the food.
“With the rising cost of living, it is really difficult to find people selling food for less than RM5 these days.
“We have identified about 30 hawkers selling food below RM5 and all of them will be acknowledged as well,” Yeoh said during the certificate presentation at Teoh Guan Hup Coffee in Air Itam today.
Yeoh, who is also the Paya Terubong assemblyman, urged the public to inform the government if they know or come across any hawkers that sell food below RM5 as they are likely thousands of them.
Meanwhile, H’ng, who sells a variety of noodles such as pan mee, chicken mee hun soup, koey teow soup, pan mee soup, hong tu mee, claypot mee, and many others said customer satisfaction is her priority.
H’ng has been operating her stall for 18 years at the Air Itam Market complex.
“The low rental by the local council also helps me to sell my food at low prices. And as for me, I want my customers to be happy.
“I certainly feel proud and happy for being given this recognition by the state government,” she told Buletin Mutiara team.
It is learned that most of the customers are her regulars as well as senior citizens.
Wei’s koay kak stall is located at Teoh Guan Hup Coffee Shop at Medan Angsana 1, Bandar Baru Air Itam while Lim’s mee jawa stall is at Genting Restaurant Farlim, Lintang Angsana, Bandar Baru Air Itam.
