CHILDREN (aged seven to 15) who are interested in joining the first ever ‘Sports For All-Climbing For All – 2021’ programme at Project Rock climbing centre in IKEA, Batu Kawan on April 24 must quickly register themselves.

That’s because it is only open free of charge to the first 80 participants!

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the activity would be held from 10am to 2pm.

“The Penang State Sports Council and Penang Climbing Association are collaborating with each other to organise this activity.

“Generally, this sport is one of the new sports in Penang. With the establishment of Project Rock at IKEA, Batu Kawan, it is now growing in popularity.

“This sport will be a main attraction among community, especially the youths,” he told a press conference at Project Rock in IKEA, Batu Kawan yesterday.

To date, there are three centres that have been established under Penang Climbing Association. The three are ORCA Climbers, Project Rock and Penang North Climbers.

On behalf of the state, Soon expressed his gratitude to Penang Climbing Association for organising the programme.

“The programme aims to introduce the sport of climbing to Penangites and provide them a platform to try it out,” he said.

Other activities that would also be taking place are climbing sports skills introduction, climbing trial activities and talk session for parents.

Participants must wear appropriate sports attire on the day itself and would be given a ‘Sports For All’ T-shirt and a certificate of participation.
