NON-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely the Penang Rose Charities Association and International Women’s Association (IWA), have successfully collected more than RM500,000 during a fundraising dinner that was held recently to assist the Childhood Cancer Association Northern Region (Foccan).

Organising chairman Engel Cheoh said the fundraising dinner that was hosted at the St Giles Wembley Hotel managed to receive a total of RM613,000 contribution from various parties.

“We are grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to this meaningful fundraising effort.

“The objective of the dinner was to raise funds and create awareness of childhood cancer,” she said.

The fundraising dinner also was attended by Tan Lean Kee, the wife of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

The guests at the event also were entertained by the De Leon Jazz Experience band, a creative dance movement by cancer children survivors, an art exhibition from various artists, Joan Cheong’s live art-brush painting on stage, a Best2Bid auction, and others.

The highlight of the event was a creative movement dance by 13 young cancer survivors from Foccan, aged 4-15 from Kedah, Penang and Perak that left the audience in awe.

IWA president Marlene Fox described the fundraising dinner as a wonderful evening filled with music, dance, and art, all in support of a great cause.

An RM500,000 cash vouchers from the H Healthcare Group was presented to Foccan president Maznah Tayib during the fundraising dinner.

Maznah thanked H Healthcare Group for their valuable contribution and Penang Rose Charities Association and (IWA) for their strong support.

“Thank you for the contribution given to Foccan. This contribution will be used as best as possible to help cancer-stricken children who are undergoing treatment.

“The contribution will be used for the initial financial needs of children with cancer, purchasing milk, diapers and medical supplies, and assisting them with transportation.

“Hopefully, more children with cancer will benefit from this contribution”, she said.
