THE recent rise in Covid-19 cases has forced the Junior Chamber International Pearl (JCI Pearl) to hold the ‘2022 Run With Flying Colours – Pass it On #BreakTheBias’ virtually for the third consecutive year.

Organising chairman Khor Kar Tien said the event, a 3km Family Fun Run, would be taking place virtually from March 6 to 27.

It is also held in conjunction with the International Women’s Day (IWD), which is celebrated on March 8 yearly, to celebrate women’s achievements.

“We had initially planned to have it physically, but due to the rising cases, we have to turn it into a virtual event.

“Runners can choose to run anywhere they want, record their time, and submit them to us.

“It is important for us to send the message ‘Break the Bias’ and to encourage everyone to call out gender bias and inequality.

The virtual press conference session taking place today.

“We hope that more participants will join in,” she said during a virtual press conference today.

The fun run is a collaboration between JCI Pearl with the Penang government, and is supported by the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC).

Khor added that lucky draw prizes of up to RM3,500 are up for grabs.

Early birds, who join the run by March 5, will only have to pay RM35 per person, and RM150 for a group of four persons; after which the regular tickets are priced at RM45 for individual and RM160 for a group of four persons.

Every participant is entitled to a microfibre T-shirt, a microfibre towel, a finishing medal, a washable fabric face mask, an e-certificate, a goodie bag, vouchers and a lucky draw entry (provided with valid submission).

State Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, who was present during the press conference, was glad that the event has been taking place since 2014.

“We want to create awareness of breaking stereotypes, and to spread positivity and inspiration to women from all walks of life.

“The theme ‘Break the Bias’ serves as a reminder that we still live in a society that stereotypes someone based on gender and race. It is something that we need to overcome,” she said.
