THE Hutchings Form Six College in Farquhar Street has recently benefited from an enhanced cafeteria, thanks to the initiative spearheaded by Tanjong MP Lim Hui Ying during her tenure as Deputy Education Minister from 2022 to 2023.

With her proactive approach, she secured approval from the Ministry of Education to allocate RM250,000 for the cafeteria’s renovation, greatly improving the facilities for the students.

She is currently Malaysia’s Deputy Finance Minister.

During a concise ceremony marking the official completion of the cafeteria today, Lim emphasised that the current Madani Government remains steadfastly dedicated to prioritizing the well-being of school students.

She highlighted the government’s ongoing commitment to providing conducive and comfortable facilities, essential for nurturing both educational advancement and healthy eating habits among students.

“Most eating spaces at schools are called canteen but it’s something different here, where they call it a cafeteria.

“The level of comfort and conduciveness in an eating space is vital to provide students with the opportunity to interact and discuss school-related matters besides eating.

“This contribution was made possible by the Ministry of Education, and so, credit is rightfully attributed to the ministry for its pivotal role in realising this upgrading project.

“I am grateful to have played a modest role in bringing this project to fruition.

“With this renovation, it is anticipated that the students here will greatly benefit from this revitalised space,” Lim said in her speech earlier today at the Hutchings Form Six College.

She also thanked the state Education Department and the Northeast District Education Office (PPD) for being key players in this project.

According to principal Balkhis Abdullah, the project was completed in December last year.

Also present during the event were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng and state Education Department director Abdul Said Hussain.
