THE people in Seberang Jaya will continue to be his main priority, says assemblyman Dr Afif Bahardin.

Dr Afif assured that his focus now would be to serve the people in his constituency although he is no longer a part of the state executive council (exco) following his resignation today.

“My commitment to the Seberang Jaya people is clear and it has never changed.

“During my seven years’ tenure since 2013 as a state exco member, there was a lot of programmes and initiatives that were carried out and proven to be beneficial to the people in Seberang Jaya.

“Thus, I will still continue with those programmes and carry out my duty as their elected representative and serve the people here with pride.

“I also reiterate my support for Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow to lead the state government towards realising Penang2030 vision of becoming a green and smart state that can inspire the nation,” Dr Afif told a press conference at Taman Pauh Jaya in Seberang Jaya today.

Earlier during a press conference in Komtar, Chow announced Dr Afif’s resignation as the Penang Health, Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry and Rural Development Committee chairman.

Chow said the decision was made during a meeting with him this morning.

He also stressed that Dr Afif is still a Pakatan Harapan state assemblyman for Seberang Jaya.

Meanwhile, Dr Afif said he accepted Chow’s advice to resign as a state exco member based on the current political situation.

“I realised that my position as a state exco member is not a privilege to me but it is more about a trust and responsibility that must be borne.

“I have also given my best efforts during my tenure, thus, I am really satisfied with what I have done and I have no regret,” he said, adding that there is no hurt feeling with Chow’s decision.

“I accept all of this with an open heart,” Dr Afif added.

On a separate note, Dr Afif reiterated his commitment to stay loyal with PKR for now until the decision is made by the party disciplinary board.

“From there, I will decide about my future in politics.

“At the same time, I have already informed my party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning regarding my resignation as a state exco member,” he said.
