THE South Seberang Perai District is poised for a major transformation, with a total of 30 projects worth RM1.06 billion under the 13th Malaysia Plan (Rolling Plan 1), Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow announced during the Penang State Legislative Assembly sitting today.
He emphasised that the substantial pipeline reflects the state government’s long-standing commitment to ensure that every region in Penang progresses in a balanced and inclusive manner.
“Seberang Perai is not forgotten. “These projects demonstrate our determination to sustain development momentum in the southern corridor, ensuring that its infrastructure, economy and public facilities grow in tandem with the rest of the state.
“The state government will continue to prioritise infrastructure, water security and socio-economic uplift to support current needs and future expansion,” Chow said in his winding-up speech at the State Assembly Building today.
As part of the rolling plan, RM125 million has been allocated as the ceiling cost for 2026, with the remaining RM506.4 million to be channelled according to project timelines and priorities.
Meanwhile, Chow also highlighted several key initiatives aimed at boosting infrastructure and community wellbeing.
“Projects like the Sungai Jawi Flood Mitigation Scheme, upgrading of Sungai Kerian Bridge, and the new flyover connecting Jalan Persekutuan to Jalan Transkrian are vital for connectivity and flood prevention,” he said.
In Batu Kawan, the Penang Development Corporation (PDC) continues to spearhead growth through major projects including Bandar Cassia School, Batu Kawan Public Market, Dataran Usahawan, GBS@Bandar Cassia, Batu Kawan Bridge, and Phase 1 of Bandar Cassia Technology Park (BCTP).
“Our focus is on creating a vibrant, sustainable township with quality infrastructure for all,” he added.
On the water supply front, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) is implementing eight projects worth RM532.0 million to enhance capacity in South Seberang Perai.
“Ensuring sustainable water supply is key to community wellbeing, and the Penang-Perak Water Project MoU strengthens our long-term planning,” Chow affirmed.
