FOR the second consecutive year, SJK (C) Min Sin has made a clean sweep in all four contested categories, namely the TKRS (Tunas Kadet Remaja Sekolah) Boys’ and Girls’ and PBBSR (Pasukan Badan Beruniform Sekolah Rendah) Boys’ and Girls’ at the 2025 Northeast District Marching Competition.
A total of 84 students from Standard Four to Standard Six, across four teams, took part in the competition and impressed the panel of judges with their coordination, discipline, and commitment to excellence.
The teacher-in-charge, Ang Aik Fung, praised his students for their determination and hard work, especially the strong performance by the Standard Four and Standard Five newcomers.
“I’m very satisfied with their performance. Many of them were participating for the first time, yet they gave their all to achieve this feat.

“Of course, the performance wasn’t perfect. There were weaknesses, but we’ll work on improving them over the next two weeks before competing in the state-level marching competition on July 22 at the state Education Department Co-curriculum Centre in Bukit Mertajam,” he told Buletin Mutiara.
Ang said the team would review footage taken by supportive parents to analyse and refine their marching techniques.
“We’ll examine our shortcomings and fix them. Some moves may have been too fast or too slow, and we hope to rectify them before competing again,” he said.

Ang acknowledged the pressure of maintaining last year’s high standard, comparing it to sustaining top academic results.
“It’s like scoring 90 marks in an exam last year. If you can’t maintain that this year, it becomes stressful,” said Ang, who also serves as the school’s discipline teacher.
Among the four teams, Ang noted that the TKRS Boys’ team, clad in green, delivered an excellent performance.
“They had zero mistakes, which is exactly what we expected,” he said.
On the other hand, the PBBSR Girls team faced more challenges as many of its members, including the captain, were participating for the first time. Some were understandably nervous, but they did remarkably well overall,” Ang added.

He also expressed relief over the fine weather on competition day, noting the rain could have significantly impacted the team’s performance.
Despite the impressive results, Ang stressed the importance of continued improvement.
Looking ahead to the state-level competition on July 22, Ang said his team would study top-level performances to refine their routines.
The school’s senior assistant for Co-Curricular activities, Khaw Wei Kiat, expressed his pride and gratitude over the clean sweep.
“This victory is the result of teamwork from everyone involved, especially the teachers, parents, and the students themselves,” he said.

Khaw noted that while the number of achievements matched last year’s, there were key differences.
“This year, the team secured four placements again, but interestingly, the roles of the platoon leaders were switched compared to last year, showing the depth of leadership talent within the team.”

As the school prepares for the upcoming state-level round, Khaw remains optimistic and confident that the students’ hard work will bring them another round of success.
