THE Kecik-Kecik Group Show 2025, held from May 30 to June 2 at Hin Bus Depot, marked the fourth and largest edition of Penang’s only affordable art showcase.
Organised by Penang Art District in collaboration with Hin Bus Depot and Arteesan.io, the event featured 183 artworks selected from 271 submissions received from across Malaysia.
This year’s showcase continued its mission of making Malaysian contemporary art more accessible to the public, encouraging a culture of collecting affordable art and giving equal exposure to both established and emerging artists.
The exhibition was open to the public on May 30 and was officially launched on May 31 by Lee Khai, committee chairman of the Penang State Art Gallery and adviser to Penang Art District.
The launch saw a strong turnout from the local arts community, guests, and art enthusiasts. Several participating artists also travelled from various states to attend, celebrating the inclusive and nationwide spirit of the showcase.

“Kecik-Kecik Group Show is a wonderful initiative that opens up the world of contemporary art to new audiences and first-time collectors. It provides young and emerging artists with a rare opportunity to exhibit alongside more established names, creating a healthy, supportive, and diverse art ecosystem.
“I commend Penang Art District and their partners for sustaining this accessible platform, and I look forward to seeing it grow from strength to strength,” said Lee Khai in his speech.

This year’s artworks were grouped into three affordable pricing tiers: RM50 to RM500, RM500 to RM1,000, and RM1,000 to RM2,000, ensuring accessibility for collectors of all backgrounds. A total of 45 pieces were sold during the four-day exhibition.
Penang Art District general manager Kenny Ng expressed his satisfaction with the outcome.
“Kecik-Kecik continues to grow in scale and impact each year. We’re currently exploring the possibility of making it a permanent annual event, as it has proven to be a vital platform for artists and collectors alike. We’re proud to see how it’s building a stronger ecosystem for contemporary art in Malaysia,” Kenny Ng said.
Kecik-Kecik Group Show continues to be an important platform that nurtures artistic talent, democratises access to art, and enriches Penang’s vibrant cultural landscape and beyond.
