HOUSE owners harassed by rogue contractors, or what some label as “gangster contractor”, should not be afraid to inform the authorities or make a police report.
“I have received complaints that contractors are forcing their renovation services on new house owners,” said Jagdeep Singh Deo, the exco for Housing.
“In August last year, I stated firmly that house owners are not obliged to use the service and they have the choice of engaging contractors to do renovation work,” he added.

“We received more complaints in March and April and we view these complaints very seriously.
“If developers are found to be in cahoots with these contractors, we will not hesitate to take action” he added.
“I advise these house owners to make a police report but some out of fear, dare not do so.”

Jagdeep said he had a meeting with state police chief Datuk Abdul Rahim Hanafi on the issue recently.
“The police chief has given his commitment and assurance to take action against such unscrupulous contractors if police reports are lodged,” Jagdeep said.

“So do not be afraid. Come to my office in Komtar and see me if you are harassed by these contractors. We will do anything to assist you.”

House owners can now heave a sigh of relief as this issue has received the attention of state government leaders and the police.
