THE Penang government is committed to working with the Federal Government as a team.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said this is important to elevate Penang to greater heights.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, we are confident and open to working as a team.

“This is because we believe in his credibility, experience, and extensive knowledge which are no stranger to the country or even the world.

“I am confident that with the strength and unity of the community, as well as with the Federal Government’s cooperation, we will continue to progress and shape a better future for Penang,” Chow said in his speech at the Kenduri Rakyat (People’s Feast) with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration in Cherok Tok Kun, Bukit Mertajam today.

Chow also welcomed Anwar’s first visit to Penang since the latter was appointed as Malaysia’s Prime Minister last year.

“On behalf of the state government and people of Penang, I would like to warmly welcome the arrival of Anwar Ibrahim to Penang, or specifically to Cherok Tok Kun in Bukit Mertajam, the place where he was raised,” he said.

Anwar, in his speech, urged all leaders to prioritise the people and be honourable, and trustworthy in discharging their duties.

“As leaders, we must set aside our personal gain and focus to serve the rakyat.

“We should serve the people properly, take care of their welfare, and not steal their money.

“A true leader must reject all forms of corruption, cronyism and nepotism.

“Only then we can bring this country to greater heights in line with the ‘Madani Nation’ aspiration,” he said.

Also present were Deputy Finance Minister II Steven Sim Chee Keong, who is also the Bukit Mertajam MP, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, who is also the Nibong Tebal MP, state Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain, Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee, Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad.
