THE state government gives priority to promoting sports for all ages in Penang, according to state Youth and Sports committee chairman Soon Lip Chee.

He said staying healthy should be a way of life for every family in his speech before flagging off the ‘OBS (Occupy Beach Street) CNY Run 2020’ at Beach Street on Jan 19.

A total of 6,800 participants from 28 countries participated in the 5km fun run on a breezy Sunday morning.

The participants, who were clad in red T-shirts, enthusiastically participated in the run as they also welcomed the New Year.

The run was organised by Occupy Beach Street and endorsed by the Penang State Government with the full support by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP).

“The OBS CNY 2020 run is a sports event which advocates multi-diversity and instils unity among participants.

“On top of that, through the ‘Sports for All’ programme we (state) are committed to organising two different sports events each month.

“This is to promote and to stir public interest in sports,” Soon said while encouraging everyone to keep themselves fit.
