State govt prioritises maintenance projects at various housing schemes, says Jagdeep

SOME 34,000 maintenance projects at various housing schemes in Penang have been completed by the state government at the cost of RM308.8 million to date.

 

This was announced by state Housing, Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo during his visit to Taman Sri Pinang Flats this morning.

 

Jagdeep was accompanied by Jelutong parliamentary candidate RSN Rayer and Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim.

 

Also present were management committee chairman Mohamad Ishak Baba and officers from Penang Housing Board.

 

“Here at the Taman Sri Pinang Flats, we have recently completed the water tank maintenance project costing RM341,075.

 

“The state government, via the Penang Maximum 80% Housing Maintenance Fund (TPM80PP), has borne 80% of the total cost, which is RM272,860.

 

“The balance of RM68,215 was borne by the Taman Sri Pinang Flats management committee (MC).

 

“I would like to also announce here that we will be continuing with the lift upgrading work at Taman Sri Pinang Flats,” Jagdeep said.

Jagdeep said earlier in September, the maintenance works for a total of six lifts with a total cost of RM294,390 was carried out at the Taman Sri Pinang Flats.

The RM308.8 million includes the maintenance works for housing schemes under the Penang Island City Council (RM27. 6 million) and Seberang Perai City Council (RM4.9 million) as well as the public housing schemes  (RM218.6 million) as well as TPM80PP (RM57.7 million).

 

Jagdeep said earlier in September, the maintenance works for a total of six lifts with a total cost of RM294,390 was carried out at the Taman Sri Pinang Flats.

 

“The state government will continue with its various maintenance works at eligible housing schemes,” he added.

 

Apart from that, Jagdeep said the state government is still waiting for the Federal government, which is now the caretaker government, to assist it with matters concerning the maintenance projects.

 

“There are still 158 maintenance projects left, which are yet to be done. And the total cost for these projects is estimated to be around RM126 million,” Jagdeep said.
