State govt takes proactive measures to ensure job security and talent retention in GLCs

THE state government has implemented several initiatives aimed at ensuring job security and retaining talents within government-linked companies (GLCs) in Penang.

According to Deputy Chief Minister I Prof Datuk Dr Mohamad Abdul Hamid (PH-Batu Maung), the state government has created space and opportunities for every GLC to appoint officers who have served two years or more.

“This is for those officers who exhibit excellent and outstanding performances and achieve the main performance index.

“They may see their contracts extended or be evaluated for permanent placement within the relevant GLC,” Mohamad said during the oral question-answer session on behalf of Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (PH-Padang Kota) at the State Legislative Assembly today.

Apart from that, Mohamad said that the state has also established a platform for sending high-potential employees for training relevant to their functions and duties within the organisation.

“The state government also provides an annual grant for each GLC, covering expenses for the salaries and emoluments as well as the benefits for each staff member at the GLC.

“The salaries offered are on par with the private sector and are more competitive than the pension scheme-based salary.

“This approach aims to enable GLCs to focus on enhanced service,” said Mohamad.

Mohamad also shared that currently, there are a total of 15 GLCs under the Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI) and one GLC under the State Secretary Incorporated (SSI).

The GLCs under CMI include Penang Global Tourism Sdn Bhd, PGC Strategies Sdn Bhd (Penang Green Council), PWDC Sdn Bhd (Penang Women’s Development Corporation), PYDC Strategies Sdn Bhd (Penang Youth Development Cooperation), Digital Penang Sdn Bhd, Penang Stem Sdn Bhd, Penang Science Cluster, George Town Conservation & Development Corporation Sdn Bhd (GTCDC), George Town World Heritage Incorporated, Penang Tech Centre, PCEB Sdn Bhd (Penang Convention & Exhibition Bureau), Penang Halal International Sdn Bhd, Penang FC Sdn Bhd, Penang Infrastructure Corporation Sdn Bhd and Penang Harmony Corporation Sdn Bhd (HARMONICO).

The GLC under SSI is Invest-In-Penang Berhad.
