THE Penang government will look into any possible way to help find the physically challenged climber, Muhammad Hawari Hashim, 33, who was reported missing on Mt Everest.

It is reported that Hawari, a Penangite, was feared lost in Mt Everest when descending from Camp 4 after reaching the peak of the world’s highest mountain at 8,848 metres.

Hawari (left) received a book on Mount Everest from Chow (right) during a courtesy visit last year.

A report from Nepal’s English daily The Himalayan Times said Hawari has been missing since Friday (19 May) and a search operation is still underway.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the Penang government would wait for further information from the related authority before deciding the next course of action.

It is also learnt that Hawari, who has been working at the Penang State Museum for over 10 years now, is the only physically challenged individual in the Malaysian team to participate in the Mt Everest expedition.
