State govt to help resolve residents’ telco tower issue

THE Penang government has pledged to look into Gat Lebuh Macallum residents’ concerns over their safety after a telecommunication tower was erected in their neighbourhood.

 

State Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari has assured the residents that the state would look into the matter.

 

“We know they are worried over the erected telecommunication tower and we will discuss this matter with the relevant authorities.

 

“We understand their concerns and we will look into them,” he said after attending a two-hour dialogue session with the residents in Dewan Komuniti, Gat Lebuh Macallum yesterday (Jan 6).

Zairil also stressed the importance of technology with the introduction of 5G network in the country.

 

Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Daniel Gooi, who was also present, addressed residents’ concerns during the session.

 

The residents also took the opportunity to raise questions during the engagement session and also requested that the tower be moved to another site.

Also present were Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng, who is the political secretary to Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and representatives from Malaysian Nuclear Agency, Health Ministry, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), PDC Telecommunication Services Sdn Bhd and Local Government.
