PENGKALAN Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng announced today the installation of three water tanks at Cecil Street Market and Hawker Centre in anticipation of the scheduled water disruption from Jan 10 to 14.

The water tanks are placed strategically within the premises.

During a press conference, Wong said each water tank can store up to approximately 2,700 litres of water, enabling affected businesses and hawker stalls to remain open throughout the four days.

“However, I was informed that several hawker stalls as well as businesses will remain closed throughout the water disruption. I respect their decisions in doing so and humbly request the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) not to take any action,” Wong said.

Wong also reminded businesses and hawker stalls in the area to be prepared for the water disruption, emphasising the importance of storing sufficient water supplies and utilising the available water tanks.

Additionally, Wong assured that public toilets in the area would remain open throughout the water disruptions.

MBPP councillor Tan Soo Siang, who was also present, urged market visitors to be mindful of their water consumption when using public amenities during the water disruption.

Also present were MBPP councillors Alan Lim Wei Lun and Benji Ang Ming Quan.
