Students have fun with science at annual Deepavali event

WITH the Festival of Lights being just less than a week away, places of interest in Penang are gearing up for the exciting celebration.

 

At Tech Dome Penang, some 280 students from six schools were welcomed to join the annual Deepavali STEM event.

The students, who were from SJKT Perai, SJKT Ladang Perai, SK St Mark Perai, SK Convent Bukit Mertajam, SJKC Keow Kuang, and SJKC Beng Teik Pusat, participated in a special STEM workshop. Some 30 teachers also accompanied the students to Tech Dome Penang.

 

The students were taught how to make ‘DIY light-up cards’ using LEDs.

 

Lauding the good effort by Tech Dome Penang was Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy.

 

“I am very happy to see so many teachers and students here. I am sure you are excited to see the various science and technology exhibits here at Tech Dome Penang.

 

“Tech Dome Penang is an initiative by the Penang government and was established in 2016. It is a science discovery centre that has gained recognition locally and globally.

 

“Tech Dome Penang provides many hands-on and interactive activities to engage students to discover the wonders of science and technology.

 

“In conjunction with the Deepavali celebration this year, Tech Dome Penang organises this special STEM workshop to teach students how to make ‘DIY light-up cards’ using LEDs,” he said in his speech recently.

Dr Ramasamy also urged teachers to play a role in encouraging more students to be interested in science.

 

He thanked Penang Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng for sponsoring the event.

 

Joining him were Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees and Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi.
