Taking Penang’s tourism to greater heights

THE Penang Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage (PETACH) office has introduced another product to promote the state’s tourism.

The Experience Penang Year (EPY) 2020 is launched to position the state at the international travel market which is deemed competitive.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the EPY 2020 was crucial for the development of the state’s tourism.

Chow speaking in his speech before launching the event.

“Our service sector has overtaken the manufacturing sector in Penang.

“To boost our tourism industry, we need to incorporate heritage, culture and arts in our tourism product.

“The EPY 2020 is also in line with the Penang2030 vision, which is to create a variety of quality tourism products with the aim to raise household incomes,” he said after launching the the EPY 2020 at Hotel Equatorial Penang in Bukit Jambul today.

State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said the tourism industry would contribute significantly to the state’s growth.

“These efforts are in line with our intention to explore new opportunities,” he said.

Yeoh pointed out that EPY 2020 would start off with a national beauty pageant this October and a world pageant next year.

“This will definitely boost Penang’s image in the international arena through the participation of foreign countries and media,” Yeoh said.
