RESIDENTS at Taman Industri Dahlia in Butterworth and nearby areas received good news today when state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee announced the construction of two types of sports courts in the area.

Soon said the state government has approved an allocation of RM280,000 to build the volleyball court and two takraw chinlone (sepak raga tuju) courts.

“The construction works of these sports facilities have already started on June 6 and they are expected to be completed on Aug 29 this year.

“We decided to build these types of sports courts based on the requests by the residents here, especially the youth, so that they no longer have to go to other places to play the games.

“Once the project is completed, we hope we can unearth new talent and also promote interest in volleyball and takraw chinlone among the youths here,” Soon told a press conference during his site visit to the construction site today.

Also present was Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) councillor Ng Yee Siang.
