Tech Dome Penang sparks students’ interest in STEM education

Admin

A TOTAL of 240 students from eight primary schools in Penang took part in the virtual ‘Raya STEM’ workshop, organised by the Tech Dome Penang.

The pupils learned about the Islamic calendar, lunar phases and key Islamic astronomers (al-Khwarizmi, al-Battani and al-Biruni).

The pupils were from SK Batu Maung, SK Sungai Ara, SK Taman Inderawasih, SJK (T) Perai, SJK(C) Wen Khai, SK Paya Keladi, SK Permatang Damar Laut and SK Mohd Shah.

They also learned about the telescope and Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei.

The online science workshop was held via Google Meet on May 18.

Materials to build a ‘homemade’ telescope were supplied to the students two weeks before the actual workshop date; and the pupils followed an online demonstration to build their telescopes during the workshop.

Some 30 teachers were also invited to take part in the workshop.
