AS the people gear up to celebrate a wonderful Christmas and to usher in the new year, The TOP Penang welcomed its visitors this evening with its colourful Christmas tree lighting event.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who was present with his wife Tan Lean Kee, said businesses in Penang were gradually moving back to normal.

“Hotels in Penang are getting reservations and shopping malls are also swarmed with shoppers. The traffic in the state has also increased.

“All these have given us the motivation to continue to seek new and creative ways to boost our tourism and hospitality industry.

“We have entered Phase Four of the National Recovery Plan. Malaysians can take this opportunity to visit the attractions that we have in Penang, as well as to explore the attractive deals and packages for tourists,” Chow said.

He also advised the people to continue observing the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and stay safe.

“The state government greatly appreciates the initiatives and support from various organisations, such as Only World Group (OWG), in coming up with attractive promotions and enticing travelers to come to Penang.

“The TOP Penang is an iconic landmark in Penang, and I would like to OWG for being a significant stakeholder to boost Penang’s tourism industry, and even more so in reviving the fortunes of Komtar.

“With your constant and consistent promotions as a one-stop edutainment venue for education, leisure and dining, like your mantra – Fun, Food & Good Living – you gave and is still giving Komtar its much needed breath of fresh air,” Chow said.

He conveyed his appreciation to OWG founder and chief executive officer Tan Sri Richard Koh, chief operating officer Puan Sri Jean Koh, and the team from The TOP Penang for a job well done in organising the event.

The TOP operations director Kevin Lai said the Christmas tree lighting is an annual event.

“We are happy to welcome everyone back,” Lai said.

Richard celebrated his birthday after the event.

Also present were invited guests Datuk Dr Simon Lo and Datin Josephine Yoong, and children from Crystal Family Home and The Salvation Army.
