THE Design Village Outlet Mall in Bandar Cassia achieved a remarkable milestone when the outlet mall embraced sustainable energy solutions by utilising solar power in its premises to meet its energy requirements.

Design Village chief operating officer Andy Song Chung Boon said with a system capacity of 1.9712-megawatt peak (MWp), comprising 3,584 solar panels with each unit rated at 550-watt peak (Wp), and supported by 24 inverters, the outlet mall is at the forefront of the renewable energy revolution.

“This ambitious solar technology installation is projected to generate an impressive 2,868 megawatt-hour (MWh) of solar energy annually, further solidifying our commitment to a greener future.

“Through the adoption of solar power, the Design Village Outlet Mall is expected to avoid a staggering 1,833 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) equivalent emissions each year, amounting to an incredible 42,928 tonnes over 25 years.

“These figures, verified by the Malaysia Green Technology Corporation, are equivalent to planting 715,469 trees!

“Thus, this showcases the significant contribution of the Design Village Outlet Mall towards combating climate change and promoting environmental sustainability,” Song said in his speech before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow launched the solar energy system at the mall today.

Chow also congratulates the Design Village Outlet Mall for achieving the remarkable milestone.

“Such initiatives represent a significant step forward in embracing sustainable energy solutions.

“I am happy to hear that this solar technology installation will contribute to a reduction in the consumption of non-renewable energy sources.

“Accordingly, I must state that we are gathered here not only to celebrate the launch of the Design Village Outlet Mall solar energy system but also to appreciate the vision and dedication behind its construction.

“Now, this outlet mall stands as one of the largest in the country powered by solar energy, setting new standards for sustainable and environmentally-friendly infrastructure,” he said.

Chow also urged the public to support and promote the use of renewable energy in their daily lives.

“I am confident that together, we can create a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly future for Penang and beyond,” he said.
