Toy art exhibition returns to enthral more art lovers

ARTISTIC expression can be as unique as we think, and it is something that always excites us with its beyond-comprehension work.

This is what, Nepfix Studios PLT and Sixty Nine Resonance director Shum-Jian Wei feels and he also desires to stir the interest in arts as well as encourage individuals to appreciate it.

Shum said he is set to hold the second edition of ‘In the Name of Art’, an art toy exhibition which will be showcasing the artwork of a total 22 local artists including himself.

He said some 40 art pieces will be displayed during the exhibition.

“As I have always said, art is not something that is boring, but it is something for us to explore.Art is beyond our imagination.

“Through this exhibition I want to cultivate the love for different types of arts specifically toy arts.

“YB Chris Lee (Pulau Tikus assemblyman) has been very supportive towards this programme and I would like to thank him for that,” Shum said during a press conference today.

The ‘In the Name of Art 2.0’ exhibition will be held on Oct 1 from 10 am to 10 pm at Gurney Plaza’s new wing (ground floor).

It is learned that renowned street artist Kenji Chai will be one of the participating artists at the exhibition.

Meanwhile, Lee said youngsters should be given the opportunity to express arts as sometimes it is the only way for some individuals to express themselves.

“Following the success of its first edition (‘In the Name of Art’) at Taman Areca few months back, we are coming up with another one here in Pulau Tikus.

“This type of arts (toy art) is a new trend among our young people which is still at the beginning stage.

“We want our young generation to be able to express themselves boldly as that is the first step towards innovation.

“When there is innovation, then as a society we can then move forward.

“I would like to thank the Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) Pulau Tikus for putting up a good work in organising the first edition of (‘In the Name of Art’).

“The team is also involved in organising the upcoming exhibition,” Lee added.

Also present was JPWK Pulau Tikus chairman Chua Siew Bee
