TO enhance the convenience of the residents in Bagan Dalam, Rapid Bus Sdn Bhd is all set to launch the ‘Bagan Dalam Loop’ bus service in July.

Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees said he had received an approval letter from Prasarana Malaysia Berhad yesterday (May 16), following an application to Transport Minister Anthony Loke on March 17.

The new public bus service will serve the Bagan Dalam-Jalan Assumption route.

He expressed his gratitude to the transport minister as well as Prasarana Malaysia Berhad for their prompt and positive response.

“This new service by Rapid Penang, which is called the ‘Bagan Dalam Loop’, will start its trial run on July 1, and it will be based on ‘proof of concept’.

“The success of the bus service will be measured by the average ridership of a minimum of 200 passengers per day.

“Only then, the ministry or Rapid Bus will decide whether to continue the service or not. I am confident that ridership numbers will be more than that.

“I also would like to request to the ministry to increase the number of mini buses to help connect the areas which do not have access to public transport,” Satees said during a press conference today at the Bagan Dalam service centre.

Satees added that there would be a total of 15 trips for the Bagan Dalam Loop (Bagan Dalam-Jalan Assumption) bus service.

“We will be using the smaller Hino Poncho bus for cost-saving as it caters to a maximum of 50 passengers per trip.

“It will operate during the peak hours from 6.30am to 7.30pm.

“I believe this new bus service will benefit senior citizens, housewives as well as students attending schools along the route.

“Overall, this is to enhance the mobility for those who do not have transport,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Northern Region Rapid Bus head Ahmad Shabuddin Abdullah said he hoped that the (T614 Bagan Dalam-Jalan Assumption) bus service would receive a good response from the public.

It is learned that additional 10 bus stop poles will be added for the Bagan Dalam Loop bus service and passengers are only charged RM1 to get to any destinations within the route.

The Mutiara pass is also applicable to the bus service.
