Underground leaking pipe being addressed, says state rep

PARTS of the Jalan Perak and Jalan Free School intersection will be temporarily closed on Monday night for checks to be carried out on an Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) underground leaking pipe.

Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong said the matter was brought to his attention last month.

Checks will be carried out at the intersection of Jalan Perak and Jalan Free School on Monday.

He, however, said it could be a major repair work if the green light is given, as the IWK underground pipe is surrounded by a few electric cables.

“The IWK and Tenaga National Berhad (TNB) authorities will conduct checks on Monday before proceeding with any major repair works.

“It is a tedious process as it might take a few months, but hopefully everything will be alright. They need to be careful when doing the earthworks as any mistake may cause a power outage from Gelugor to Datuk Keramat.

Ong hoped everyone will be patient if the repair works are carried out.

“I hope everyone can be patient. We are trying our best to rectify it,” he told reporters after a 30-minute discussion with the authorities at the intersection of Jalan Free School and Jalan Perak yesterday (July 21).

Ong hoped the residents nearby can understand the situation.
