Unsung heroes recognised for their contributions

DESPITE facing challenging and tough times battling Covid-19 pandemic, the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) frontliners’ contributions and sacrifices to Penangites are not forgotten.

No matter rain or shine, these MBPP workers would sweep the trash from the streets and clean up public premises for the sake of cleanliness.

They are the frontliners helping the council and the state government to keep the state clean. Their attitude and professionalism is a breath of fresh air.

For that, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang held a thanksgiving event for the third year in a row since 2018 to appreciate the MBPP workers from Air Itam and Air Putih state constituencies.

He continued his tradition of appreciating their noble effort by giving away 200 packs of McDonalds and hampers this year.

“I still remember that the event took place at a Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) outlet last year.

“However, we can only provide takeaways and hampers this year due to unforeseen circumstances.

“The hampers consist of some basic necessity items, like biscuits, noodles and other items.

“Nevertheless, I hope all these contributions totalling RM2,160.28 will ease their burden,” he told reporters after attending the thanksgiving ceremony at Astaka Kampung Baharu in Air Itam today.

Ng also advised those present to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to break chain of infection.

“The MBPP frontliners are exposed to various people daily and I hope they will all take extra precautionary measures by wearing face masks and sanitising their hands,” he said.

Smiles were seen on their faces as they received the gifts, which came timely for them especially during this pandemic.

Joining the event were MBPP councillor Rohaizat Hamid and Air Putih constituency coordinator Hong Kian Beng.
