THE Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) is organising a short video contest, themed ‘Single-use Plastic’ from April 28 to June 15 this year.

MBSP mayor Datuk Rozali Mohamud said the contest, as part of a civic consciousness campaign, is open to secondary school students (from Form One to Six) in Seberang Perai only.

“The competition is aimed at encouraging the youth to share their creative ideas with the community on the effective ways to reduce single-use plastics such as food wrappers, plastic water bottles, plastic utensils and others.

“The video produced must be less than three minutes long and the maximum video file size is 500MB.

“It can be in the form of any genre – from drama to comedy to even documentary.

“The participants may join individually or in a team of not more than five people. And the video can only be in Malay and English.

“After all, we believe this type of competition will instil more awareness among the students to encourage them to do away with single-use plastics,” Rozali told a press conference after chairing a full council meeting at the MBSP headquarters building in Bandar Perda, Bukit Mertajam today.

Those interested can call MBSP staff (Chew Eng Seng) at 012-4779330 or email at [email protected] to participate.

The last date to submit the video entries is June 15.

The champion will win RM600 while the second and third prize winners will receive RM400 and RM300 respectively. All the top three winners will also be given a certificate of appreciation each.

There are also two consolation prize winners. Each will receive RM100 with an appreciation certificate.
