Waste management company does its part for CERT George Town squad

THE Penang-based waste management company, Shan Poornam Metals Sdn Bhd has come forward to donate an emergency response vehicle (ERV) to the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) George Town squad today.

 

Shan Poornam Metals chief executive officer Datuk Selvakumar Shanmugam Chetty said the ERV vehicle is worth RM45,000.

“Apart from being an environmental and sustainability driven organisation, we also want to play a more active role in supporting our community especially our frontliners.

 

“And with our contribution today, we hope CERT George Town squad will fully utilise it to assist Covid-19 patients in the event of an ambulance shortage.

“We also appreciate the dedication shown by the CERT George Town squad in serving our community during the pandemic.

 

“While we at Shan Poornam Metals strive to protect the environment, we certainly support those who serve the community.

 

“After all, we strongly believe that to be successful is always a result of good teamwork. And a community that can work as a team will definitely achieve plenty, from winning the Covid-19 battle to living in a safe and sustainable world,” Selvakumar said during the handover ceremony at Komtar today.

 

CERT George Town chairman Ong Swee Jin, who received the vehicle on behalf of the squad, thanked Shan Poornam Metals for their generous donation of the vehicle during these trying times.

 

“Thanks also to state Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh for playing a crucial part in approaching Shan Poornam Metals for the contribution.

“It is a meaningful and valuable assistance for us because we have been using motorcycles in our mobilisation efforts.

 

“Now with an ERV vehicle, we can operate more effectively as we can use it to provide additional assistance in complex cases such as transporting Covid-19 patients and other emergency cases as well.

 

“In short, with the ERV vehicle, we hope we will be able to provide more services for the community,” he added.

 

Also present during the handover ceremony were Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy, state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin and Phee.

Phee commended Shan Poornam Metals for such contribution and also encouraged more private companies to step forward as well to assist frontliners in the state.
