Water level in Air Itam Dam shows further decline

THE water level at Air Itam Dam has continued to record a further decline as its capacity has dropped to 54.1 percent today compared to 59.4 percent on March 10.

A check by Buletin Mutiara reporters found that during the one-week period, water capacity in the dam has dropped by about five percent due to the prolonged dry and hot weather.

Water at the dam, which is supplied to many of the households particularly in Air Itam and Paya Terubong. The hot spell has raised concern with the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) urging residents to use water wisely.
Over in Teluk Bahang Dam, its water level also further dropped from 74.7 percent to 72.9 percent in a week.
Penangites have been told to brace for about another two months of hot spell.

When contacted, PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow and he would make a site visit to Air Itam Dam this Saturday.
“We will issue a statement after our visit at 3pm,” said Jaseni.
