Welcome to Penang, SuperStar Gemini

SUPERSTAR Gemini has arrived in Penang and will be making the state as one of her home ports in Malaysia for the current deployment until April 28 next year.

A welcome ceremony was held on board the cruise ship today, with invited guests being taken on a tour.

Star Cruises is a member of Genting Cruise Lines.

Genting Cruise Lines vice-president of Sales Cynthia Lee said Star Cruises was thrilled to be back in Penang.

“We are thrilled to be back in Penang – a regular destination for Star Cruises since 1994.

“Genting Cruise Lines continues to see great potential in Malaysia.

“We remain highly committed in supporting the cruise tourism industry with our home ports and port of calls to Malaysia. This includes SuperStar Gemini’s current deployment from now until April 28 next year.

“SuperStar Gemini will carry on the legacy of SuperStar Libra that recently retired from active duty from the Star Cruises fleet; which many of you have come to know and love when it was home in Malaysia early this year,” she said.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the welcome ceremony was a joyous occasion.

“We are very pleased that Star Cruises is back in town with another ship, SuperStar Gemini, and has chosen Penang again as one of her home ports in Malaysia for the current deployment until April 28 next year.

“Penangites and international travellers can choose to embark the SuperStar Gemini from Penang.

“Penang is an ideal cruise hub in the region. It is a place that lives up to its reputation as one of the most popular and beautiful destinations in Malaysia and the world.

“Penang is home to many marvelous sights and natural wonders. The state retains its ‘old-world’ charm while developing a modern cosmopolitan atmosphere,” Chow said in his speech.

Chow said that Penang continues to record promising growth in the tourism industry, including the highly potential cruise tourism sector.

“Last year, Penang received over 1.2 million cruise visitors via the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal, making it Malaysia’s major cruise tourism hub.

“Penang has much to offer and we are always happy to welcome our tourists’ friends from across the region and globally,” he added.
