THE Majlis Pusat Kebajikan Semalaysia (MPKSM) (Penang branch) will provide more oxygen concentrators to the Kepala Batas Hospital.

Its deputy chairman cum chief executive officer Datuk Tan Yong Seng said the welfare association had already contributed three units yesterday (Aug 17) to the hospital.

“And we will contribute another three more oxygen concentrators this weekend.

“We decided to donate these medical equipment after the Kepala Batas Hospital management told us that they need more oxygen concentrators to treat Covid-19 patients.

“So, we raised the fund among our members to buy all six units that are worth close to RM10,000.

“We purchase all of them from China. Three units had already been given to the hospital, while another three units are expected to arrive this weekend. Once they arrive, we will give them to the hospital.

“The most important thing now is we try our best to ensure that the hospital is equipped with respiratory equipment such as these.

“After all, it is our responsibility indeed to give back to the society and help in whatever way we can during these trying times,” Tan told Buletin Mutiara during an interview session at Pusat Jagaan Rumah Sejahtera in Bertam, Kepala Batas today.

The welfare association owns two old folks’ homes in Penang, with one operating in Bertam, Kepala Batas and another in Permatang Tinggi, Bukit Mertajam.

Tan said the welfare association also is looking forward to raise fund among its members to buy single-decker beds.

“This also includes mattresses, pillows and blankets which then will be donated to the Caring Society Complex that will be turned into the Covid-19 Low-Risk Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) soon,” he added.

Also present during the interview session was MPKSM Penang branch secretary Sun Yong Chin.
