THE LovePENANG initiative, since its introduction this year, has been a platform of opportunity for all.

Today, three winners from its ‘Social Media Video Challenge’, bagged big money prizes for garnering incredible support online.

The first prize winner was Mohammad Hazizi Padzil, who took home RM8,000 for receiving over 6,800 engagements (likes, comments and shares).

Meanwhile, the second and third prize winners were Chow Jia Jing (RM5,000) and Oh Puey Ping (RM3,000). Jia Jing and Oh received 2,700 and 1,950 engagements each.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who made the announcement earlier, said the competition was not just a simple video competition, but more importantly, a promotion of the LovePENANG concept, bringing out the affection and love for Penang and everything in it.

“Penang, in addition to its amazing people, is home to many exquisite and remarkable locations, cultures and food.

“And I hope this competition inspired everyone to discover and appreciate more of the beauty within this fine state.

“With many young competitors, I am delighted that this challenge not only revealed their social creativity and entrepreneurial spirit but also gave us a glimpse of their views and aspirations.

“Given that today’s youth are the future of our nation, I strongly believe it is crucial for the state to pay attention to their expectations,” Kon Yeow said in his speech before announcing the winners in Komtar today.

The competition, which was initially planned for a month-long after being launched on June 27 this year, was extended until Aug 14 due to numerous requests by the people.

Chow said as of the closing date, a total of 192 video entries were received, garnering a combined viewership of almost 297,883 and engagements of over 66,000 (likes, comments and shares).
