THE Penang government and Southeast Asia’s leading cloud, e-commerce and digital solutions provider, Exabytes, launched the Women Entrepreneurship with Exabytes today in conjunction with the International Women’s Day 2021.

Themed ‘Women We Can’, the initiative aims to highlight the capabilities of women and encourages entrepreneurship by providing a platform for women entrepreneurs in Malaysia and Singapore to turn their business ideas into reality.

State executive councillor Chong Eng, who oversees the Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs portfolio, said the initiative would entitle 100 selected women entrepreneurs to a free website or online store set-up.

“These chosen entrepreneurs will be given an opportunity to not only create an online presence for their businesses, but help them reach a wider audience to increase their sales.

“I understand that Exabytes would be sponsoring a total of RM350,000 in the form of products and services for this initiative.

“The website can be built by incorporating their own brand identity, a vital element to reinforce a business image, making a business more memorable and helping to attract their target audience,” she said during the virtual launch of the initiative via zoom today.

Chong Eng also added that this initiative provides a timely opportunity for women to materialise their dreams of starting online business, considering that the e-commerce industry has been booming and has continued to grow amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Digitalisation is the way forward and women should not be left behind but continue to contribute their areas of expertise for the growth of economy in our country,” she added.

Also present during the launch were Exabytes senior vice-president Vickson Tan and senior business development manager Ooi Poh Yan.

The initiative will run throughout this month and is open to any woman entrepreneur in Malaysia or Singapore who has a registered business.

The deadline to apply is by March 31. For more information on the programme and the eligibility, please visit https://www.exabytes.my/women-entrepreneurship.
