THE third edition of the Women Glamour Award will be held in Penang on Oct 10, tentatively at The Top Penang in Komtar.

Chong Eng, the state executive councillor for Women & Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness & Religions Other Than Islam, said the organisers, known as ‘The Girlfriends’, are promoting and organising the award to recognise the extraordinary vitality of ordinary women and add value to our society and families.

“Women are playing multiple roles in their lives. Due to their careers, women are to juggle between family and career,” Chong Eng told a press conference in Komtar today.

“Under the current Covid-19 pandemic, it is indeed not easy for them to share their economic difficulties with their families.

“For this reason, there is a greater need of affirmation and encouragement to the nominees.

“This recognition has an important meaning. It is not only limited to personal achievements or public welfare and dedication to the society but also has the significance of substantially strengthening and empowering women.”

Also present at the press conference were Sungai Pinang assemblyman Lim Siew Khim, honorary consul for Brazil Datuk Annie Chin, Penang Women’s Development Corporation chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng, award founder Jess Mok and award chair lady Gabrielle Lew.

Other attendees included jury member Prof Dr Tan Kok Siang, one of the sponsors Jess Loke and committee member Lai Ee Li.

Lim said she was glad that the organisers, who held the first two award ceremonies in Kuala Lumpur in 2018 and 2019, decided to hold the third edition in Penang this year.

“This is because Penang has strong women’s development programmes.

“I hope our women in the state will give their support,” Lim said.

Mok says the purpose of the award is to give women the opportunities to rise up and enhance their self value.

Mok said the award is open to all women – whether they are housewives, business women or professionals.

“The award is created to give women the opportunities to rise up and enhance their self value.

“We want to celebrate their successes and achievements to inspire the next generation,” Mok said.

Lew said the award, like the previous years, is open to foreign participants too.

She added that women from Hong Kong, China and Singapore were among the participants before.

The award has five categories, namely full-time housewife/homemaker, individual contribution to the community, inspiring young woman (between 18 and 30 years old),  woman entrepreneur and business woman.
