A PUBLIC welfare programme aimed at raising awareness of women’s intimate health is set to take place in Penang later this month, with organisers targeting the participation of 50 women aged between 18 and 70.

The “Caring for Women’s Intimate Health” Public Welfare Sharing Session (Penang Edition) is scheduled to be held on July 20 at 8pm at the Penang 2030 Centre for Komtar constituency (KADUN Komtar) at Kompleks Taman Harapan along Jalan S.P. Chelliah.

Speaking at a press conference today,  Women and Family Development Committee (JPWK) Komtar chairman Wong Hun Theng said the initiative was launched to promote greater awareness of women’s intimate health and encourage proper self-care through health education.

She  noted that many women continue to face increasing pressures from family and work commitments, resulting in personal health concerns, particularly intimate health issues, being overlooked.

According to her, traditional perceptions and social stigma have also discouraged open discussions on women’s intimate health, despite concerns such as itching, recurring discomfort and unpleasant odours affecting the physical and emotional well-being of many women.

“This is a purely educational and non-commercial public health awareness programme. We hope to break the stigma surrounding women’s intimate health and provide participants with professional health knowledge that will help them develop greater awareness and healthier self-care habits,” she said.

She added that the programme would be suitable for women of all ages, from young adults to senior citizens, and would focus on promoting confidence and well-being through better health management.

The sharing session will feature two main components, namely scientific health education and personal consultation.

During the educational segment, participants will learn how traditional herbal wellness practices can be combined with modern approaches to support women’s intimate health, including practical guidance suited to Penang’s hot and humid climate.

Meanwhile, professional health consultants will be on hand to provide one-on-one consultations and answer participants’ health-related questions.

To encourage participation, Wong said attendees will only need to pay a registration fee of RM5.

Each participant will receive a complimentary trial pack of wellness patches worth RM98, while a free consultation session provided by a local health organisation will also be offered.

She expressed hope that the programme would help create greater awareness of women’s health issues and encourage more women to seek reliable information and support.

The press conference was moderated by Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng.

He encouraged encouraged women to take advantage of the sharing session to gain a better understanding of intimate health issues and the importance of preventive care.

Registration is open and places are limited to 50 participants.
