IT was a Saturday well spent for engineer Eugene Lim when he signed up his family for the community gotong-royong programme at his residential area here.

Eugene, 40, his human resource manager wife Leaw Ai Vin, 42, and two children, Jariel, six and Clarice, nine, were among some 100 participants who took part in the ‘Combi Cari &  Musnah Aedes dan Gotong-Royong Komuniti Taman Lintang Bersepadu’ in Taman Lintang, Penang Hill, today.

Eugene said it is important for the residents to keep their residential area clean.

“It is such a beautiful morning today and I am glad to spend it with my family. We can contribute to cleaning our residential area and have some family bonding time,” he told Buletin Mutiara.

Jariel and Clarice also showed their excitement during the programme.

Also took part in the community event were Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng, Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng, Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai and Penang Hill Corporation general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng.

The programme was jointly organised by the Communication for Behavioural Impact (Combi), Bukit Bendera Village Community Management Council (MPKK), Air Putih constituency service centre, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) and KRT Pen-Hill Condo AB.

Earlier, the participants were divided into teams before they were deployed to their designated sections.

Those present removed the rubbish, cleared clogged drains and destroyed potential mosquito breeding grounds along the road.

“This is a good programme which can benefit the community here, including the children.

“The people can live in a clean, green and healthy environment.

“It is very important for the people to keep their residential area clean. By keeping our area clean, it helps to keep Penang clean too,” Guan Eng said.

“Bukit Bendera MP Wong Hon Wai had also pledged to contribute RM5,000 earlier and we had thanked him for his assistance.
