Written reviews needed for state govt to decide on implementation of proposed Penang undersea tunnel project

THE Penang government is still awaiting written reviews by the Penang Port and Penang Port Commission (PPC) on the proposed Penang undersea tunnel project.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, in replying to a question by a journalist, said the state had also sent a reminder to the two authorities recently.

“Although the Penang Port and Penang Port Commission representatives did not show their support during a technical meeting on the project, the Penang government is still requesting official written reviews from both the authorities.

“Yes, their responses were recorded in the minutes of the meeting. However, they could reflect the views of the representatives who attended the meeting.

“We need official written reviews by the Penang Port and Penang Port Commission for us to decide on the implementation of the proposed project,” Chow said today.

On March 26, it was reported by an English daily that the PPC was finalising the written review with Penang Port Sdn Bhd (PPSB), which included a detailed report on the shipping aspect.

PPC chairman Datuk Tan Teik Cheng was quoted then that the written report would be sent to the state government next week.
