THE Youth Tech Asia Challenge (YTAC) 2026 has returned to Penang this year, bringing together 100 teams from across Malaysia, alongside participating students from Indonesia and Vietnam.
YTAC is an annual international competition for young innovators across Asia, organised by Eduwel Sdn Bhd.
The challenge provides a platform for students to develop creative, technology-driven solutions to real-world issues in key areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), robotics and sustainable living.
This year’s edition of YTAC is jointly organised by Eduwel and Tech Dome Penang. The three-day programme runs from Jan 7 to 9 and is being held at Tech Dome Penang in Komtar.
The event was officially opened today by Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng.
Also in attendance were Tech Dome Penang chief executive officer Khoo Boo Wooi and Eduwel founder and chief executive officer Yivonn Lo.
In his speech, Wong described YTAC as a vital platform that offers students opportunities to explore technology, challenge themselves, collaborate across borders and transform innovative ideas into meaningful solutions.
“Penang has long been recognised as a hub of innovation, technology and talent.
“Therefore, today’s gathering is especially meaningful as YTAC returns to Penang after a four-year interval,” he said.

He added that the event’s return signifies more than the continuation of a competition, reflecting Penang’s strong and ongoing commitment to nurturing young innovators and future-ready talent across the region.
Wong also emphasised that Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education is no longer optional but essential.
“Early exposure to STEM empowers young people with critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills.
“These competencies are crucial not only for future careers, but also for adapting confidently to an ever-changing global landscape,” he added.
