IT was an auspicious day on April 3 when Seagate Technology Inc president and chief executive officer Stephen Luczo (pic) was conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (DSPN), which carries the title ‘Dato’ from Penang Governor Tun Rahman Abbas.

Also present at the investiture ceremony at Seri Mutiara was Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Deputy Chief Minister II Prof Dr P. Ramasamy and State Secretary Datuk Farizan Darus.

“It is a privilege for me to receive such credit and I thank Penang for the honour you have given me,” said Luczo, who was named one of the Top 50 Businessperson of the Year 2012 in Fortune Magazine.

Luczo, 57, began his Seagate career in Penang in 1993 as a senior vice-president of Corporate Development.

In July 1998, the Chicago-born Luczo was promoted to chief executive officer (CEO) and appointed president in January 2009.

Under his leadership, Penang Seagate, which was set up in 1988, has expanded with approximately 4,500 employees currently over an investment of RM2.5 billion.
