SOME 1,000 runners took part in the Petronas Le Tour de Langkawi 2020 Fun Run in Butterworth at the Datuk Ahmad Badawi Hall field on Feb 9 at 7.30am.
Jointly organised by Parent-Teacher Association of SMK Datuk Abdul Kadir, Penang Youth and Sports Council with support from the Education Ministry and the state government, the event was a prelude to the upcoming Le Tour de Langkawi which would be held on Feb 13 (Thursday).
Present at the flag-off of the 5km fun run were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee, Bagan Dalam assemblyman M. Satees and SMK Datuk Abdul Kadir principal Abdul Rashid
Abdul Samad.
Soon, in his speech before the flag off, said sports is meant for all, regardless of age, gender and religion.
“This will lead to unity. For the ‘Sports for All’ programme initiated by the state government, two sports are organised monthly,” he added.
