Fed Govt urged to assist in maintenance of Penang’s housing schemes

THE state government hopes that the Federal Government can provide necessary assistance to the maintenance of public and private housing schemes in Penang.

State Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said he would like the federal authorities to explain why no update has been given following the state’s requests.

“We are asking why no answer has been provided to our requests.

“We hope that they (Federal Government) can understand that we are doing it for the sake of Penangites.

“We wanted to assist the housing schemes in the state and we hope they could provide us some feedback.

“To date this year, the state, through Penang Housing Board, has applied for a total of RM134.76 million for 198 maintenance projects for public and private housing schemes.

The lifts upgrading project at one of the blocks in Taman Seri Hijau, Batu Lanchang.

“They have merely approved RM8,481,000 for 41 projects,” he told reporters after inspecting the five lifts upgrading ceremony in Taman Seri Hijau, Batu Lanchang this morning.

Jagdeep added that the cost of the five lifts’ upgrading was RM385,000.

“The state has forked out RM308,000 while the remaining RM77,000 would be borne by Jelutong MP R.S.N Rayer’s allocation,” he said, adding that the state was committed to assisting the residents.

Also present were R.S.N Rayer and Batu Lanchang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong.
