THE lower ground main atrium concourse of 1st Avenue Mall has now been turned into a vibrant and colourful Raya ‘town’ in conjunction with the mall’s official launching of the Fiesta Raya campaign today.

1st Avenue Mall general manager Yeap Chin Chong said the campaign is a joint collaboration with Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (Fama) that started from April 9 and would end on May 31.

“The main objective of the Fiesta Raya campaign is to offer shoppers with various goods and Malay products, such as Hari Raya cookies, art and craft.

“It is a platform for them to shop at reasonable prices and also to give them a Raya mood through amazing decorations at the mall atrium,” Yeap said in his speech before Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow officiated the launching of Fiesta Raya campaign at the mall today.

Among those present were state Tourism and Creative Economy Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, Komtar assemblyman Teh Lai Heng and Penang Fama deputy director Mohd Junaidi Raziqin.

According to Yeap, the campaign also features a ‘Lokal 1st Agro Craft Bazaar’ that started from April 9 and would end on May 11 at the mall atrium as well.

“We have a total of 10 Fama booths selling great local products such as Hari Raya biscuits and cookies, dodol, ketupat, rendang, songkok and many others.

“The bazaar also serves as a platform to spur the economy and local products,” he added.

Through the campaign, Yeap said the mall also features exciting Raya activities and workshops during the weekends, such as ‘Raya Cupcake Decorations Workshop’, ‘Raya 3D Jelly Decorations Workshop’, ‘Kompang Performance’, ‘Arabic Dance’ and ‘Gamelan Music Performance’.

“In addition, shoppers can also participate in our exclusive ‘Fiesta Raya Redemption’ which is redeemable during the campaign period at our information counter.

“All you need to do is spend RM120 and above or RM200 and above in a maximum of two combined same day receipts to redeem our Raya packet or a limited edition mosaic art plate.

“We also have a special ‘Buka Puasa Redemption’ in which you spend RM60 and above in a single receipt to redeem food and beverages vouchers from our participating retailers,” he added.

Meanwhile, Chow commended the collaborative efforts to make the Fiesta Raya campaign a success.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow

“It is interesting to note that the management of 1st Avenue Mall has also collaborated with Fama in bringing in local entrepreneurs to sell local products such as Raya delicacies within the mall.

“This is indeed a very timely and welcoming approach. The mall not only helps the retailers but also lends a much needed helping hand to our small entrepreneurs by providing them with the opportunity and space for doing businesses during this Ramadan season.

“And I must say that it is the combined efforts of everyone to generate economic activities in spite of the challenging times right now which will help us in our post Covid-19 recovery.

“The Fiesta Raya campaign also has various redemption packages that can help tenants and retailers to boost their sales by attracting the shoppers to spend more.

“As we know, the Ramadan and Hari Raya period is a special time filled with forgiveness and blessings. While this upcoming Raya may be slightly different due to the Covid-19 situation, we hope that through this campaign, it will give Penangites the opportunity to have an affordable yet unforgettable and meaningful celebration,” he added.
