A total of 228 young scouts from 22 primary schools in the Bukit Mertajam parliamentary constituency were recognised for their achievements at the ‘Anugerah Ketua Pengakap Negara Daerah Bukit Mertajam 2026’ ceremony held at SJK (C) Peng Bin today.
Organised by the Malaysian Scouts Association (Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia) Bukit Mertajam District, the ceremony recognised Cub Scouts aged 12 and below who had successfully completed various proficiency and advancement badges as part of their scouting journey.
Beyond celebrating their achievements, the awards also recognised the scouts’ efforts in developing discipline, independence and creative problem-solving skills through their participation in scouting activities.
Bukit Mertajam District Scout Council president and Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee said the recipients had set a positive example for their peers through their strong commitment to scouting.
“Their success is the result of hard work, discipline, determination and a spirit of perseverance.
“This achievement is not only a source of pride for their parents and teachers, but also brings honour to their schools and the Bukit Mertajam district,” she said.
Meanwhile, Penang Chief Scout Commissioner Datuk Zulkafli Kamaruddin expressed his appreciation to the schools for their continued support and guidance, which had helped the young scouts achieve the Cub Scout rambu (badge) recognition.
He said the awards went beyond acknowledging individual excellence, as they also reinforced the important role of the scouting movement in nurturing young people with integrity, vision and a strong sense of responsibility towards society and the country.
“This recognition not only celebrates the excellence of each recipient, but also strengthens the role of the scouting movement in shaping a generation that is principled, forward-looking and responsible towards society and the nation,” he said.
The ceremony also featured the establishment ceremony for the Air Scout Cub Scout Patrol of the 71st Bukit Mertajam Scout Group at SJK (C) Peng Bin.
