TOWER-running king Soh Wai Ching set a remarkable record at the Oregeon Tower Run @ The Top Penang at Komtar this morning, clocking 6 minutes and 39 seconds in a field of more than 300 participants.

“What a nice day it is! And what a great day to redeem myself. I am extremely delighted to have completed my mission of scaling 68 floors in under seven minutes,” he said.

On Aug 29, Soh, 32, clocked seven minutes and two seconds to climb the 68-storey Komtar Tower, covering 1,356 steps, in a solo record attempt for the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR).

Two days later, on National Day, the Selayang-born runner clinched another MBR record when he completed the Penang Hill Heritage Trail in 25 minutes and 55.25 seconds.

“I was more composed this time after last week’s solo attempt. I ran up the stairs at a more conservative pace this time and maintained it all the way up, pushing only during the final 10 floors to achieve the feat.”

Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari flagged off the race before heading to The Top on the 68th floor of Komtar to witness Soh’s feat and the arrival of other runners.

“My next mission is to defend my title at the KL Tower Run International Challenge on Sept 20,” he added.

Soh won the 2025 KL Tower Run International Challenge in 8 minutes and 11 seconds, completing the 1,608-step climb at Kuala Lumpur Tower, which involves a vertical ascent of 292 metres.

Given his current form, it would not be surprising if Soh continues his record-breaking run with a sub-eight-minute finish at the KL Tower Run International Challenge.
