THE small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) road users at Diamond Valley Industrial Park, Batu Maung, will be able to enjoy a smoother and safer ride along Lintang Beringin 10 by the middle of next month.

Penang Entrepreneurial Development, Trade and Industry Committee chairman Datuk Abdul Halim Hussain said the road was damaged over time by heavy vehicles.

Abdul Halim speaks to the reporters.

“The drain along the 100m-stretch road has also been damaged. The damaged drain causes flood along the road during heavy rain.

“The repairing and upgrading works have started on July 18. The works are scheduled to be completed by middle of next month.

“A sum of RM123,000 has been allocated for the project under the special Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris) fund,” Abdul Halim told reporters today.

He said there were over 200 SMEs in Diamond Valley Industrial Park, and heavy vehicles from over 40 SMEs used Lintang Beringin 10.

“This industrial park is over 20 years old. We have also received several other requests to upgrade the roads here, which we are looking into them,” he said.

Abdul Halim stressed the importance of SMEs to Penang.

“The SMEs are significant contributors to the state’s economic growth. They support the bigger companies like the multinational corporations (MNCs),” he said.

Public Works Department (JKR) southwest district engineer Wan Eika Che Daud said the upgrading and repairing works in Lintang Beringin 10 involved repairing and tarring the road, as well as repairing and cleaning the drain.
