FIFTY recipients from the B40 community were given a pleasant surprise by their state elected representative here at her service centre.

In conjunction with the Christmas celebration this year, Padang Lalang assemblyman Chong Eng presented them with RM100 cash vouchers each to help them with their financial constraints.

“We also presented aid during other festive celebrations such as the Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Deepavali and Chinese New Year.

“We have been doing this programme since 2013; aimed at helping the poor and needy.

“The recipients can use the cash vouchers at the Billion shopping centre to buy daily necessities for their family,” Chong Eng told reporters after presenting the aid at Padang Lalang service centre in Bukit Mertajam today.

The recipients also took home two packets of milk powder, courtesy of Fonterra Brands Malaysia.

Meanwhile, some 150 underprivileged pupils in the Sungai Pinang state constituency received RM150 cash vouchers from the Pusat Zakat Negeri Pulau Pinang (ZPP) as part of the back-to-school aid.

Chong Eng, who is also the Penang Women and Family Development, Gender Inclusiveness & Religions Other Than Islam Committee chairman, hoped that the aid could lessen the financial burden of the parents.
